Bennerin Baruj
Bennerin grew up surrounded by adventure. His father (Gell), a hardened fighter, was the Captain of the city guard and his mother (Beryl), an agile rogue, was the secret bodyguard and best friend of the Lord Mayor’s wife. His older brother (Halpern) was the intellectual of family and is destined to become a wizard of extraordinary power. His younger sister (Roslyn) takes after her mother and could as easily become a charming trickster or a deadly assassin.
At the age of 15, while spending a summer with relatives away from the city, he was urgently called back the city because his mother had been killed. A trade delegation on its return to the city was ambushed by bandits. Among the dead were both the lord mayor’s wife and Bennerin’s mother. Coincident with the violent attack, was the arrival of a new noble family (Kadat family) who had recently reclaimed land near the city. The new nobles had an instant animosity to the Baruj family and lack of trust was reciprocated. Gell believed that the Kadats were behind the death of his wife and the lord mayor’s wife, but the increasing influence of the Kadat family quickly influenced local opinion to accept the notion that Beryl’s incompetence led to the death’s of the trade caravan. Sensing the citys sentiment turning against his family, Gell sent his children away from the city to train with friends and family.
Thus it was with great hesitation that Bennerin left his father, brother, and sister to begin his training. Under Pierre Vassalli, the captain of the local town watch, and friend of Gell he demonstrated great skill and potential. After 5 years of training, Bennerin learns of his father’s death in a tavern brawl. At his funeral, it is apparent that the family has lost almost all standing in the town they once called home. Bennerin does not believe that his father would have died in a simple bar fight and believes that his father was assassinated. He begs Halpern to help him uncover the circumstances of their father’s death, but Hal believes the rumors that his father descended into drunken grief and started one to many fights and thus has decided to return his studies in the Arcane. Both are concerned that there sister did not return for the funeral and neither of them has heard from Roslyn in over 4 years, but there are rumors that she has gone to Fallcrest.
Thus Bennerin travels to Fallcrest to begin anew and search for his lost sister.
