Back to Campaign - Ghaun’aste
The Drow Rogue was sent to track down Edgar Sommerfield of Overlook some months ago, but he had been unable to settle the debt for some time. When the Farstriders ventured into the Vents to seal the tunnels, Ghaun’aste followed them, easily navigating the underground passageways. After sneaking around the few Orcs who had begun to infect the Vents, he was injured by a trio of Fire Beetles. Keeping to his stealth, he found long-abandoned Dwarven Quarters, and sealed the door so that he could rest in comfort there. While he was recovering, he missed the Farstriders’ death at the hands of the cave troll, and he is now stuck in the room, with several Orcish voices coming from the hall outside.
Background
Ghaun’aste comes from the Drow but has become an outcast from his race. Rejecting his people and traditions, his old name was lost and he assumed his current one (which roughly means Bearer of Curse in Drow). Anyone who knows his name, but not yet his blade, will know he will respond to just Ghaun (pronounced Gone or Gu’juan in Common tounge).
Personality Traits
Agressive, flashy in combat, prefers longer fights to quick kills - unless the situation calls for serious action. Usually Ghaun’aste approaches combat lightly, only going into a quiet rage once he suffers injury. This usually means he’ll toy with victims in order to demonstrate his skill - even going so far as to prefer hand to hand combat (feet and fist) over his blades. When Ghaun’aste’s blades finally do come out, it’s time to return the living to the Raven Queen.
In conversation Ghaun’aste will intimidate and bluff to get his way. While skillful in combat, he knows he’s not the strongest or the toughest, so if he can win without bloodshead then victory is just as sweet. Words are usually short and brief - to the point. Then when his mark’s guard is down…
Mannerisms and Appearance
Usually dressed in a long, hooded cloak, Ghaun’aste tends to try and blen into the background. He will then use this to his advantage to spy and learn information or rab and steal from the unsuspecting. This also allows Ghaun’aste to mask his identity and generally keep everyone guessing to his equipment and abilities. Tall and slender, Ghaun’aste usually tries to pass for human, which also tends to keep him below the attention level of watchful eyes.
Companions / Allies
Companions are minor convienances to achieve a goal. Ghaun’aste has no friends, and many enemies (mostly other Drow). He does not care if others live or die, unless it is him who kills them, or he needs them to further his needs.
