Tsurras: Okay, so it could be as easy as us going to turn in the thief and running into our old chums on the way back to the Quays...they decide to sub in for our current chums...all except for Tsurras cause hes the badass
GM: yeah, that could work okay
Haiku (Estavir): estavir, wanting to be a badass too, tags along with tsurras
Tsurras is SO badass, he's decided to not roll like a retarded ocelot today!
GM: You leave everybody from last week 'keeping an eye' on the old broken down tenement
Campaign saved.
GM: oh right, estavir was here last week
GM: oh no you weren't
GM: OK, so Tsurras is turning in the halfling thief. The guards on duty take him with an air of weary recognition, and he grins at them and settles in for a long stay. On your way out, you run into Gerund, who's here bailing out Kavan and Estavir.
GM: Apparently Kavan and Estavir got a little out of hand after a party, according to a certain farmer. So now they're sleeping it off, or trying to.
GM: Gerund, Eliza got the message these guys were in the drunk tank and sent you to bail them out. So it's you and Tsurras meeting. And.... go!
Estavir is wide-eyed
Gerund feels weary already
GM: Estavir, you see a number of drunk peasants. Apparently you and Kavan aren't the only people in the drunk tank tonight.
GM: But, back to Gerund and Tsurras...
Gerund: Greetings, Tsurras. What brings you here on this fine day?
Tsurras stretches and rubs his arms
Tsurras: Gerund, isn't it!
Gerund: Indeed!
Tsurras: long time no see, master of fire
Tsurras: burn anything down lately?
Tsurras: If not, your old friends could use your help
Gerund: No. Haven't had the chance...umm, I mean, I'm trying not to so much these days...unless it's really called for.
Tsurras gestures towards the Quays
Campaign saved.
Tsurras: We're getting near the bottom of this damnable business with Guy and the Dark Crystal
Gerund: Gladly. Actually, I'm here helping out another couple of our former friends. Estavir and Kavan. Partying again.
Gerund: I'm sure they'll be happy to help as well. In their way.
Tsurras: I'll tell you, the things we've seen
Gerund: So give me a minute to bail them out, and then let us talk of this crystal.
Tsurras: the things, I've seen, really
Tsurras: alright
Tsurras: I'll be at the blue moon...
Tsurras: Its not like those other guys need me or anything
Incidentally, I don't see a jail house listed here in the DMG so I'm going to say it's in the eastern end of the lower quays district
Tsurras winks conspiratorially
Tsurras: errr
Tsurras: nevermind
Tsurras: I'll go with you
Tsurras: you dont want to wander the quays by yourself
Gerund: Thanks...
Gerund goes inside, fills out the necessary paperwork, etc.
GM: Yes, Eliza thoughtfully gave you a few gold to bail them out. That and her good name is sufficient.
[w] Tsurras: gm what made us check out the warehouse in the first place? Was this from the note that the female dragonborn dropped?
Gerund: So, now that we are all together again, tell me of your tale.
Estavir: I am a mighty drunker!
GM: Incidentally, for a plot recap kinda, last game you were attacked by the remnants of Telric's Irregulars, interrogated a hireling thief they had along with them, and found out a bit about Terrence Trimble's birthplace.
Campaign saved.
GM: Apparently he was born in a torn-down tenement which for some reason he still owns.
Tsurras: thats right
Benticore (Tsurras): yeah, Trimble is the guy that was working with Guy...Guy left a note that said he was gonna hide out in trimble's birthplace
Benticore (Tsurras): we also had the wizard who made a dark crystal detector for Guy, make one for us...
Benticore (Tsurras): the plan is, we take care of Guy first, then use the divining rod thingy to seek out this crystal
GM: he won't be done until tomorrow.
4dSwissCheese (Gerund): Ok. And did we learn anything else about who Guy is?
Benticore (Tsurras): right
GM: The wizard = Ulghar the Grey
GM: yes, you learned a little about Guy's identity, I think
GM: anyone remember some of the stuff Harry Harding said about him?
GM: Halfling Thief: Guy used to be a guy named Cywll, one of us. He and Trimble had an arrangement.Dirren: How about you tell me his real name?Halfling Thief: What was that for? I was telling you!Tsurras: Dirren is impatientTsurras: continueHalfling Thief: I'm not telling this guy any more. I'll talk to the paladin.Dirren: Now we're getting somewhere... What's the arrangement.Halfling Thief: Keep that guy away from me.Dirren turns his back, looking out over the rooftops for that blasted archer.Tallis pulls Dirrin a bit off to the side.Dirren -> Skill [Perception] [25] [1d20+9 = 25]GM: He turns his head away; looks like he doesn't want to hear from Dirren, the guy who keeps kicking him in the groin, anymore.Tsurras: continueGM: You see no one.Tsurras: what about this arrangement between Cywll and Trimble
GM: Tsurras: what about this arrangement between Cywll and TrimbleCampaign saved.Halfling Thief: Okay, okay. But seriously, no more attacks to the groin.[w] Tallis -> Dirren: you are a ranger correct?Tsurras: fineTsurras: deal[w] Dirren -> Tallis: Yes.Halfling Thief: Well I don't know exactly how it worked, just that Cywll was working the merchant end of it and Trimble was passing messages out of town to Vrima's gang. Only her boss was named Telric or something.Tsurras swears in DraconicDirren: Telric. His name was on those damned documents.Tsurras: yeahHalfling Thief: Anyway so a few months ago Cywll has the bright idea to pretend to be a merchant himself, gets a nice disguise together. We all had a laugh over this.Tsurras: we killed him and his merry band of theives a few days agoDirren: Hm.Dirren: Perhaps Vrima didn't get the memo.Halfling Thief: But it turns out one of the fun things he had in mind was wiping out Telric's gang by sending some folks to their hideout.Tsurras: yeah...Dirren: Seems that was us friend.Tsurras: us...Halfling Thief: Anyway so Vrima was away at the time - she finds out and comes here looking for him.Halfling Thief: Yeah, she knew it was you. So she persuaded Kelson to set you up.Halfling Thief: And hired me to keep an eye on you. And that's the whole story.Dirren: See Tsurras, you're making more friends.
Campaign saved.
GM: if you guys want to see this in a more readable form, the chatlog is on the wiki as normal
GM: DM’s NoteLodin got 150xp. Unfortunately his comp went out at a crucial time. Tsurras, Dirren, and Tallis each got 380xp and 50gp.They also found a +1 frost bastard sword, a +1 dueling dagger, and a halfling-sized suit of +1 leather armor. The characters entered Fallcrest, discussing their problems, and decided to take them to Eliza Meribow at the Chapterhouse of Avandra. She suggested they look into Trimble’s history at the merchant’s guild building, and talk to Kelliborn there.Kelliborn said Trimble had been fired for stealing tips from Cywll, who worked there for many years. Apparently they had been good friends before the incident.Investigating Trimble’s properties and family history, the party went to the lower quays district. In the Lucky Gnome bar, they ran into Kelson, the bartender, who seemed helpful - he offered to track down someone to give them some information about Cywll or Guy Damrosch.Unfortunately, Kelson’s contact was a trap - Vrima the Noxious, Ellis Leafborn, and Max Harding (the unnamed halfling thief in the chatlog) were waiting to rob them of the notes they took from Guy and Trimble’s offices. After a long, difficult fight, Vrima died, Leafborn escaped, and Max Harding was persuaded to tell them everything.Apparently Trey, Cywll, and Telric’s merchant company had been in cahoots. For whatever reason Cywll had disguised himself as the merchant Guy Damrosch and betrayed Telric’s company to the authorities (sending the adventuring party to their home base in the first game). Now Cywll was on the lam and everyone wanted him dead.Max didn’t know why the party wanted info about Trimble’s family, but he gave it to them - they used to live in a broken-down tenement. For whatever reason, Trimble had still owned the tenement.

GM: OK, so the four of you are outside the jailhouse.
Tsurras: Good to see you all
Tsurras: Kavan, I'm really glad to see you
Estavir: lizard!
Campaign saved.
Kavan bows.
Tsurras: Listen, there isn't much time to explain now but we need to head to a particular warehouse
Kavan: Good to see you as well.
Estavir casts about in his pockets for meat
Tsurras: seems that Guy...or Cywll, has been playing us all for the fool the entire time
Estavir: a meat warehouse?
Tsurras: err not warehouse...a tenement
Estavir: a meat tenement?
Gerund: Ahh well. That'll happen. So what are we going to do about it?
Tsurras: Seems that Cywll used us to kill a rival gang and now is hiding out in Trimble's place
GM: Early evening is becoming late evening. People look askance at your group, standing in front of the jailhouse. A Guard comes out and gives you a stern look.
Tsurras: Also, he gave the crystal to the damned lizard things
Kavan: Tsurras sure could use a tin of mint.
Kavan grins.
Tsurras moves forward as he speaks
Tsurras smiles gently
Estavir follows
Tsurras: Once we bring Guy to justice, we're off after that crystal
GM: As you walk through the streets of the lower quays district, you're once again reminded it's not a nice place to live.
Estavir: bad guards, aren't they lizard!
Tsurras: But I have a feeling, we're going to need every last ounce of strength you guys have...who knows what kind of tricks Guy has set up
Tsurras: both the remenants of Telric's gang and Us are after him...
Tsurras: so keep your wits about you
Kavan looks sideways at Estavir.
Gerund: Sounds good. Then we should be quick about it.
Estavir beams at Kavan
Estavir: to glory!
GM: The four of you reach the ruined tenement. The others who were with Tsurras are nowhere to be seen.
Tsurras: oh
Tsurras: Oh man
Tsurras: I hope those guys didnt get knifed in the back.
Estavir: what, lizard?
Estavir: guys?
Gerund: Hmm...I hope nothing...untowards has happened to them in our absence.
Tsurras looks around for lurkers in the shadows...
Tsurras -> Skill [Perception] [7] [1d20+3 = 7]
Estavir -> Skill [Perception] [28] [1d20+9 = 28]
Estavir looks for signs of a struggle
GM: You see none. But there is an arrow nearby.
Tsurras looks for other ways into the building besides the front door
Estavir picks up the arrow and examines it
Campaign saved.
GM: Tsurras, you circle around the ruined tenement and don't see a back door to it.
Following the halfling's directions, you reach a long-abandoned building in the lower quays. Teetering and stinking of mildew, it is plain even the vagrants no longer attempt to shelter here.
Estavir: now this place would make a fine home!
GM: are you guys going in?
Estavir: tosses the arrow aside
Gerund: May as well. But carefully. I don't want anything else falling on my head.
Estavir: let's go in, we're going in, right lizard?
Liquidmantis (Kavan): can we see inside?
Tsurras unsheaths his sword, says a prayer to Avandra, and cautiously moves through the front door
GM: You see a crumbling, broken down, hallway inside.
Tsurras looks for doorways, and signs of recent activity
Tsurras -> Skill [Perception] [6] [1d20+3 = 6]
Tsurras moves into the hallway looking for a door
Tsurras: Watch out back, Estavir
Gerund Stays by the door, in case he tries to make a break for it.
Estavir turns around
GM: Most of the doors in this hallway are broken open already. Glancing into a few as you go along, you see nothing of interest.
Estavir sits mopingly on the front step
4dSwissCheese (Gerund): Any signs of recent occupation?
Tsurras gestures Estavir forward
Estavir (muttering): got the grace of a pack of oliphaunts . . .
GM: perception check?
Estavir: gets up
Gerund -> Skill [Perception] [7] [1d20+3 = 7]
Tsurras: I just wanted you to stay to the rear and occasionally look back...I wasn't putting you in time out
Estavir: and goes forward
GM: not that you see...
Tsurras: actually, you Are a scout...
Tsurras: get up there and find stuff!
4dSwissCheese (Gerund): Yeah...I should fix this "blind as a bat" thing.
Campaign saved.
Estavir: happily peers through the doors looking for "stuff"]
Kavan listens carefully
GM: You smell something vile in the next room. The door is broken and moving through the door will be difficult.
Kavan -> Skill [Perception] [19] [1d20+3 = 19]
GM: what are you looking for?
Estavir: can I see inside?
GM: roll perception
Estavir: this place stinks (points to door)
Estavir -> Skill [Perception] [16] [1d20+9 = 16]
GM: Kavan, you hear chittering
GM: and movement
Tsurras gets ready to bust through the door
Gerund moves forwards a bit
Estavir: wait lizard, i think . . .
Liquidmantis (Kavan): from the next room?
Liquidmantis (Kavan): can I tell size or anything? Is it loud?
GM: Estavir, you see a wrecked room. From your perspective you don't see any enemies through the door, but there is an odd miasma.
Kavan (whispering): There's something in that room.
GM: You don't have echolocation man, you just hear a lot of little chittering things.
Estavir: nope, don't see anything, but there's a weird cloud or something
Tsurras: more rats?
Tsurras: well
Estavir: rats don't form into clouds
Kavan shrugs.
Tsurras: we could open the door and have Firestarter ready with the burning
Gerund: Yeah. I can do that.
Estavir: nocks an arrow because he is scared of clouds, or at least he is right now
King Mob: I don't have a map of the hallway, so you guys are going to have to humor me by entering the apartment :)
Campaign saved.
Kavan gestures at Tsurras to go on in.
Gerund enters, dang it
Kavan (whispering): Great, send the wimpy wizard in first.
Estavir glances protectively at Gerund
Tsurras: GIANT WIZARD!!!
Liquidmantis (Kavan): Ha!
Gerund tries to identify the miasma, once he spots is.
GM: hm, why is the wizard so big, haha. I need to find you another icon to use
Entering the wreck of one apartment, you smell what must be the worst smell ever - a mix of rotting fruit, meat, and refuse. The stench seems to have a green, noisome body. You hear chittering from within the cloud of stink.
GM: arrange your characters within the mask and then roll init
Estavir wanders over to the fireplace
Tsurras -> Initiative [20] [1d20+2 = 20]
Gerund -> Initiative [6] [1d20+1 = 6]
Estavir -> Initiative [16] [1d20+4 = 16]
Kavan -> Initiative [16] [1d20 = 16]
4dSwissCheese (Gerund): Is it assumed that Gerund knows the vulnerabilities of swarms?
Estavir wonders how soon he will die
GM: From within the green (pretend it's green please) miasma, you see rats moving around. They're partially obscured.

Stinking Smell -> Overwhelming Stench [necrotic] (Damage) [3] [1d6 = 3]
Benticore (Tsurras): I didnt want to be in the cloud!
GM: Tsurras, the nauseating stench lowers your defenses until a save.

GM: so because I messed up by not telling you that, I'll let you retake your standard action if you'd rather do something else, or just zap a dire rat with that roll instead
GM: also, you might want to shout something in character about it

GM: ok, you throw off the feeling of unsteadiness from the dire rat's attack.
GM: was anyone else bitten by a dire rat?
Tsurras: I was
Tsurras: [14] [1d20 = 14]
GM: ok, roll perception. And use a short rest / healing surges if you like.

GM: You notice a basket and a pile of refuse at the heart of the cloud
Tsurras -> Skill [Perception] [23] [1d20+3 = 23]
GM: Tsurras, it's a wooden basket. There's a wooden stick below it as well.
Kavan: Hey Tsurras, go poke at that basket.
GM: It's full of rotten things.
Estavir: I can shoot it . . .
Estavir: see if it dies
Gerund: I can burn it.
Estavir: or, you could set one of my arrows on fire, and we could burn AND shoot it!
Gerund: YES! GENIUS1
Estavir starts to give Gerund a high five, then stops
Tsurras pokes the basket with his cold sword of coldness
Estavir: wraps his hands in some spare cloth, gives a high five to Gerund, then throws the cloth in the fireplace
Estavir shudders
Tsurras boldly goes where his compatriots dont dare to go
Estavir: hey tsurras, let's tip this table over on top of it
Tsurras walks to the basket of stench, holding his breath, and looks in
Gerund: I'll go. Once it's sanitized...
Stinking Smell -> Overwhelming Stench (vs. Fort) [at Tsurras] [10] [MISS] [1d20+6 = 10]
Campaign saved.
GM: The basket is full to the brim with rotten meat and vegetables. Below the basket, a wooden, flexible rod looks to be of interest and not as wrecked as everything else here.
Estavir: spare the rod, spoil the food
Gerund: I'd like to take a minute to sense if the rod is magical.
Kavan groans.
Tsurras: I'll overturn the basket, grab the food, then back out...
Tsurras: err
Tsurras: wait
Tsurras not the food...teh rod
Tsurras: the rod!
Estavir: that hungry, lizard?
Estavir: wanders over to the bed
GM: ok, you knock the basket over, the food falls out, and it begins to close. For some reason it seems to have more food inside than it had a moment ago, as the food continues to come out. You snatch the wooden rod and retreat.
Tsurras now out of the cloud of nasty stench, walks over to
Tsurras: EWWWW
GM: Now that you have a good look at the wooden rod, it's a shabby, unstrung, longbow.
GM: you think you could close the basket if you ran back in. that might stop it from producing food.
Estavir: thinks about taking the basket to the roof
Tsurras goes back in and closes the basket
Tsurras: [11] [1d20 = 11]
Estavir: blows at the cloud
Stinking Smell -> Overwhelming Stench (vs. Fort) [at Tsurras] [23] [HIT] [1d20+6 = 23]
Estavir: *puff puff puff*
Stinking Smell -> Overwhelming Stench [necrotic] (Damage) [to Tsurras] [6] [1d6 = 6]
GM: You close the basket - the magically augmented stench abates.
Estavir sits down on the pillows
Liquidmantis (Kavan): So the basket makes rotten food?
Tsurras peeks in the basket
Haiku (Estavir): kind like me . . .
GM: Inside the basket, you see clean fruit and meat.
Gerund: Attempts to identify the basket and the long bow.
Campaign saved.
Tsurras: Oh look!
Tsurras opens the basket again
Kavan: Eat some!
GM: What do you do with the bow?
Kavan readies Healing Word.
Gerund: Pick it up, examine it.
Gerund: Assess its nature.
GM: string it? use it to shoot at something?
Gerund: I'm not really much of an archer...
Estavir: let me see that bow . . .
GM: after a good cleaning, this bow can be identified as a longbow +1.
Gerund: hands it over
Kavan: Neither is Estavier.
Kavan: (-e)
Gerund Heh
Tsurras: Sweet!
Estavir: rubs the bow on Kavan's robe
Estavir: good as new!
Estavir: takes the string from his longbow and strings the new one
GM: It still smells kind of off
Estavir smells nothing out of the ordinary
GM: The room smells awful still, just not magically dangerous awful.
Estavir: puts the bow on his back, content that the item belongs to him now
GM: Do you continue to search?
Tsurras: yes
Tsurras: we all okay?
Kavan: Yes, anything of note to search?
Gerund: Yeah. I'm getting used to the smell.
Estavir is pretty pleased with himself and begins strutting around ineffectively
GM: You find a corpse near where the longbow was. The body has a pouch with 10gp and a potion of healing.
Gerund: What's the state of the corpse? Can we make an ID?
GM: No, it's been chewed on extensively
GM: maybe DNA evidence
Gerund: Poor bastard.
Estavir looks at the corpse
Estavir looks at his new bow and seems to cheer up
GM: but it seems more than a week or two ago, you're pretty sure that wasn't Guy / Cywll
Campaign saved.
Gerund: Shall we look at the rest of the building?
Estavir: let's check this back room
GM: There's nothing of interest there.
GM: Can I get 'walking around' perception checks, however?
Estavir: well, something tells me there's nothing of interest here
Tsurras: lets keep moving
Gerund -> Skill [Perception] [22] [1d20+3 = 22]
Estavir -> Skill [Perception] [10] [1d20+9 = 10]
GM: what are we looking for, Gerund?
Estavir: except I'm going to do it with my hands over my eyes!
Estavir: watch this trick!
Estavir puts his hands over his eyes
Gerund: Signs of recent occupation?
GM: OK Gerund, you spot a handprint on the doorway opposite the room you're in.
Tsurras -> Skill [Perception] [21] [1d20+3 = 21]
GM: Tsurras, as your group enters the room, you immediately see a freshly disturbed pile of refuse.
Tsurras: That pile of refuse has been disturbed...
Estavir: let's shoot it!
Tsurras readies his blade for interlopers, squatters and miscreants
Gerund: Oh dear. Did we let him get away while we were pre-occupied with those filthy rodents?
Tsurras (snarling): I hope not for His sake...
Estavir glances meaningfully at Gerund as he says the word "filthy"
GM: what are you guys doing?
Tsurras: Estavir can you maybe pick up a trail? see if he left a little track for us to follow?
GM: man, I wish somebody was diseased. I wanted to describe symptoms and everything
Benticore (Tsurras): ROFL
GM: when do I get to have the fun?
Gerund: Searching the room from top to bottom. For occupants. For what they left behind.
GM: Um, you see a freshly disturbed pile of refuse... you could try moving it?
Estavir: looks for signs pointing to the direction whatever disturbed the pile might have escaped to
Campaign saved.
Gerund: Yeah, I suppose that's covered in the bottom part of top to bottom...
GM: OK well when you move it you see a dirty, threadbare rug.
GM: You can tell there's a wooden trap door below the rug.
GM: by the way who took the basket?
Gerund: Ahah! Let's go down there! But someone else is welcome to go first.
Estavir: banzai!
Estavir flings open the hatch
Estavir: looks down
GM: It's a dark tunnel...
GM: in the earth...
Estavir weird . . .
GM: remind anyone of anything?
Estavir: oh my Raven Queen! this reminds me of a dark tunnel!
Gerund: Those lizard things who's name we can never remember...
Estavir: continues to ignore everyone arguing over the potion
GM: YES
GM: roll a perception check?
Tsurras hands the potion to estavir
Estavir -> Skill [Perception] [17] [1d20+9 = 17]

GM: Roll a nature check, if you weren't in game 2
Kavan -> Skill [Nature] [23] [1d20+3 = 23]
Estavir: i recognize this kind of tunnel
Tsurras -> Skill [Nature] [7] [1d20+3 = 7]
GM: Estavir, you recognize this type of tunnel. You think it was made by a reptilian burrowing creature called a Kruthik.
Campaign saved.
Estavir: i think it was made by a reptilian, burrowing kind of creature called a kru'thik
GM: Kavan, you recognize it too.
Tsurras sighs wearily
Gerund: And I've already been down one of these...
Kavan: Kinfolk?
Estavir: well, no time like the second!
Tsurras: Lets go...
GM: Kavan, you've heard Kruthik have an attack that damages all creatures around it. They range in size from hatchlings, to young, to adult, to hive lord.
Tsurras lowers himself into the tunnel
GM: They tend to burrow and leave their tunnels to hunt for food.
Tsurras: you all coming? or are you gonna debate their nocturnal cycles?
Estavir: i think we need to rest and heal up, actually . . .
Tsurras: we just took a short rest
Tsurras: all the healing we need
Gerund: I'm coming.
Kavan: Uh, Kruthik? Why don't you go down and "palaver". Let us know how that goes.
Estavir: i want to take ANOTHER short rest
Tsurras: another short rest?
Tsurras: for what?
Estavir: so we can add them together and make a long rest
Estavir grudginly follows
Campaign saved.
GM: The tunnels are long, deep, and dark. What are you using for a light source?
Gerund: I'll use the cantrip.
Kavan: I have a couple of sunrods
ShadeRaven: chuckles.
GM: ok folks, well we'll have to call it here, unfortunately
GM: 215 xp each. That includes the battle and perception based stuff.
Kavan: level 2!
Tsurras: Hey! Congrats!
Gerund: Congrats!
Kavan: Ding!
Estavir: hey, kavan, you been working out?
Kavan: Where do you think I've been?
Tsurras: Im at 1765
